Getaway from Anchorage....
To the Alyeska Resort in Girdwood!

Before or after your convention, take time out in your hectic life and enjoy one of the following treats in the peaceful little resort town of Girdwood.  You will depart Anchorage in your rental car for a relaxing 1-hour drive to Girdwood traveling along the breathtaking Turnagain Arm; famous for its unusual bore tide. This drive has been voted one of the Top Ten Most Scenic Drives in America by Conde Nast Magazine. Be sure to watch for eagles, Dall sheep and moose. Upon your arrival in Girdwood, check-in to Alaska’s only 4-Star Hotel, the Alyeska Prince Resort.

During your visit to the Alyeksa, you can take the tram to the top of the mountain where you will get a panaromic view of Turnagain Arm, as well as surrounding glaciers nestled in the mountains around Girdwood. There are numerous hiking trails around the resort that you may explore at your leisure. A 20-minute drive will take you to Portage, where you can explore in the visitors center and possibly see icebergs floating in Portage Lake.  The ice has fallen from Portage Glacier which has receded around the corner from the visitors center. You can also stop by Alaska's Wildlife and Conservation Center which is located on the drive to Portage. This is a wildlife rehabilitation center, they take in orphaned and injured animals and work to rehabilitate them and return them to the wilderness or place them in a good home.
