Hutlinana Hot Springs
Overnight Camping/Backpacking Tour

Interior Alaska is well known for northern lights, hot springs and cold winters. By the end of September, nighttime darkness has again returned to Alaska after a summer of 24-hour daylight. The leaves have fallen from the trees and the evening chill already dusts the low bushes of the taiga with hoarfrost. We can expect, rain, sleet or snow at any time. This is an ideal time to visit our wild hot springs. Soak all evening in a hot creekside pool. Lean back and watch the heavens for the mysterious northern lights (Aurora Borealis) that sway like rainbow-colored curtains across the nighttime sky. This overnight camping/backpacking tour takes you to one of the most secret, secluded natural hot springs in the state of Alaska. This remote location is unaffected by light pollution from human settlements so it is an ideal location for watching the Aurora, in this case from the warmth of the natural hot spring!

Upon arrival in Fairbanks, your guide will meet you for a BBQ lunch, an orientation and an equipment check. Afterwards, you can visit the University of Alaska Museum or take care of your last minute shopping with your guide. You will then spend the night at your local accommodations (your choice). The next morning, your guide will pick you up for a 3 ½ hour drive northward on the Elliott Highway to the trailhead. From there, the group will hike 8-miles into the backcountry to the natural hot springs. This is a completely undeveloped area, so you will be bringing everything that you need. (Some tents and basic camping equipment are available from the warehouse on Day One, otherwise your guide will help you purchase what you will need.) The hike is long but relatively easy, there is a negligible elevation gain. Portions of the trail are marshy, so you must bring sturdy waterproof boots. The campsite will be in a meadow near the hot springs. There is abundant wildlife in the area.

Tour Includes: Guide, BBQ lunch on Day 1, pick-up on Day 2, transportation to and from the trailhead, meals and snacks while you are in the wilderness, emergency equipment (first aid, satellite phone, etc.), tents, sleeping pads, cooking and eating utensils, other camping equipment.

Note: There is a minimum of 4 persons and a maximum of 8 persons for this tour to operate. Clients must bring their own personal effects, clothing, rain gear, sleeping bags and backpacks. The guide will help you purchase and inexpensive backpack or other equipment/clothing on the afternoon of Day One, if necessary. All tents are shared occupancy, unless clients bring their own. Transfers to and from Fairbanks are on your own. Overnight accommodations in Fairbanks are on your own, except for the night camping near the Hot Springs.
