Conservation Photography – Images with Passion and Purpose will be an integral part of the 8thWWC’s focus on “Art and Advocacy,” highlighting all forms of visual and written conservation communications. This program will take place from October 2nd to October 6th 2005, with a historical overview of the achievements of conservation photographers, and presentations on conservation photography projects currently underway both in Alaska and in the rest of the world. The remainder of the program, until 6 October, will include:

  • 25 presentations given by some of the world’s leading conservation photographers;
  • Discussion Round Tables to craft a Global Visual Strategy for Conservation and to define the role photography can play in conservation issues such as indigenous cultures, ecotourism, biodiversity, taxonomy, and more;
  • Drafting recommendations and resolutions for the 8th WWC;
  • Discussion and action to create the new League of Conservation Photographers
  • Book and print signings; and
  • Wonderful slide shows presenting the best of conservation photography.

All those who participate in this Conservation Photography stream will be fully registered delegates to the 8th WWC. Participation as delegates in the 8th WWC’s plenary sessions will allow photographers to learn about the latest trends, strategies, challenges and accomplishments in international wilderness conservation. Plenary sessions will also provide photographers with excellent opportunities to network with conservation organizations, and with participants of concurrent “Art and Advocacy” sessions. This will include a “Nature Writers Workshop” stream, consisting of both journalists and fiction writers. We are also confident that opportunities for joint projects and new assignments will abound during these intensive days of wilderness conservation deliberations.

To participate – Participants in this stream, as in all other associated events, will register as 8WWC delegates. During registration please select. the additional item: Conservation Photography Symposium.
