The 8thWWC continues in the tradition of previous Congresses by including all elements of the solutions that will protect and sustain wilderness and wildlands while meeting the needs of human communities. In addition to encouraging and presenting the best science, economics, business and policy, the WWC gives significant emphasis to matters of culture, the humanities, and Spirit.
Our guiding philosophy is that culture is not simply entertainment. It is far more than that. Whether "traditional" or "contemporary" fine art, dance, craft, music, stories, and more, culture is an essential part of effective decision-making. It connects human nature to the world of nature.
The 8th WWC will have numerous such elements for your enjoyment AND to help you understand the issues, be inspired as well as informed, and to act accordingly. Some of the main elements of the Cultural Program are:
Conservation Photography
Conservation Writer’s Rendezvous
Nature Screen -- Film Festival
Public Sculpture Donation to Anchorage
Pamyua -- Outstanding traditional contemporary music from the Alaskan group voted the best New group in the Nation by the Native American Music Awards
Sense of the WILD – Jim Nollman and Janus Kober
